World Day for Overcoming Poverty - 17th October 2013

On October 17th will be held the World Day for Overcoming Poverty under the theme "Fighting poverty is to fight prejudice."

The World Day for Overcoming Poverty is celebrated every October 17th. Born from the initiative of Father Joseph Wresinski and from thousands of people from all backgrounds who gathered on the Human Rights Plaza in Paris in 1987, this day is officially recognized by the United Nations since 1992.

On this occasion, many activities and debates, focused on the fight against discrimination of people in precarious conditions, will be organized throughout France.

UN appeals and encourages everyone to participate in this collective action : "Together towards a world without discrimination, based on the experience and knowledge of people in extreme poverty."

Among the appointment not to be missed in Paris, there will be a public conference on the role of very poor people in developing public policy, chaired by Claude Bartolone in the National Assembly.
The conference will be followed by a march against the prejudices that will take place from Invalides to Trocadéro to bring down all the ideas on the poor and poverty.
